Did all of these reflections let you taste the wine? I was reading your piece this morning sitting on my patio and realized that three groups of crows had been conversing. I probably missed their best bits of wit. I imagine your wine was better than my scattered observations.

Yes. It was a lovely Pinot Noir. Have a great weekend, Jackson. So what are you reflecting on these days?

Since you very kindly asked what I am reflecting on these days, and since you would rightly roll your eyes if I said, "mirrors," I will give a more pertinent answer, namely: floating, "flow," hypnosis, and meditation. I have explicitly experienced the 'flow state' once, a few years ago when I was writing a document at work. I knew just what I wanted to say, and my fingers were rapidly spelling that out on the screen in front of me. A co-worker came to the door of my little office and asked a question. I was visibly startled; my conscious world simultaneously expanded and collapsed, and thinking about it after I was able to answer my co-worker's repeated question, I realized that I had been in that special state of consciousness. [Note, an interpolated post script: it was similar, I now see, when I was writing this reply. Sorry.] Well, meditation and hypnosis are supposed to be special mental states, too; and I have heard people say it is a feeling sort of like floating. That doesn't seem to happen for me when I listen to hypnosis recordings or when I sit quietly on the patio looking at the backyard and the dark canal water beyond. I'm not bored, and I'm not making plans or solving problems, etc, but I don't feel like I'm floating or feel any special way at all. So, that's what I have been reflecting on. I imagine that when you are riding your bike or when you are meditatively exercising you have a special feeling that lets you know you are doing it right. I apologize for the long reply. Maybe, if you are at a loss sometime about what to write on next, you could write about what you feel as you are in the cloud of meditation. Since I haven't been reading your Substack too long, I would have missed any past writings on the subject that you may have done. Thanks for your patience.
