There are moments in life when surrender is the most courageous act we can undertake. Not the surrender of defeat or submission, but the profound yielding to the flow of the universe—a surrender that reveals the deepest connection between ourselves and the infinite.
In my reemerging qigong practice, I am learning to embody this surrender, to feel the currents of energy that move through and around me, and to allow nature to unfold without interference.
I remember the first time I felt the subtle tingling sensation of qi moving through my body. It was during a standing meditation, the simplest of practices. With my knees slightly bent and arms gently rounded, I began to breathe deeply, allowing the breath to sink into my belly.
As my mind quieted, a gentle wave of energy washed over me, like a warm breeze rustling through a field of tall grass. My fingers began to tingle, and a sense of inner peace settled within me. It was as if I had tapped into a vast reservoir of life force, an inexhaustible wellspring of vitality that had always been there, waiting for me to notice.
This experience was a glimpse into what the Taoists call Inner Alchemy—the art of transforming the raw energies of the body into a refined, harmonious state. Inner Alchemy is not something to be grasped or controlled; it is an invitation to dance with the flow of life, to become a willing partner to the rhythms and cycles of nature.
As I re-start my qigong studies, I am learning to let go of my need to direct or manipulate this energy. Instead, I am becoming more attuned to its subtle movements, allowing it to guide me.
The books "Power vs Force" and "Surrender" by Dr. David Hawkins offer profound insights into this journey. Hawkins speaks of surrender not as an act of weakness, but as a conscious choice to align with the higher frequencies of love, peace, and joy.
He describes it as an opportunity to transcend the egoic mind, to release the lower energies of fear and desire, and to open oneself to the infinite possibilities of the universe.
Reading his work, I felt a resonance deep within me—a recognition that surrender is not a passive state but an active engagement with the divine.
In qigong, I am discovering this dance with the infinite. When I practice, I am not just moving my body; I am engaging with the very fabric of existence. I feel the energy rising from the earth, entering through the soles of my feet, and circulating through my body.
I feel it mingling with the energy of the heavens, descending through the crown of my head, filling me with a sense of expansiveness and lightness. There are moments when I lose all sense of separateness, when I become a part of the boundless flow of life itself. In these moments, I am not just practicing qigong; I am embodying the Tao.
This state of flow is not something I can willfully create. It arises spontaneously when I let go of my striving and simply allow myself to be present. It is a surrender to the moment, a willingness to be led by the unseen forces that shape our lives.
In this state, there is no resistance, no effort—only the effortless unfolding of what is. It is a state of pure being, where the boundaries between self and the other dissolve, and I become one with the dance of the cosmos.
I have come to see that surrender is not a one-time event but a continuous practice. It is a choice I make moment by moment, to release my grip on the need to control and to trust in the wisdom of the universe. It is an invitation to let go of the small self and to embrace the vastness of my true nature.
As I deepen my qigong practice, I am learning to trust this process more and more. I am learning to allow the energy to move through me, to cleanse and transform me, and to reveal the beauty of the unfolding mystery that is life.
In surrendering to the spiritual energy of the universe, I am discovering that true power lies not in force, but in allowing—allowing myself to be guided, allowing life to unfold, and allowing the dance of the infinite to move through me.
It is a journey of deepening trust, a path of inner alchemy, and a continual surrender to the mystery of existence.
